Italian design,Blending Italian design, the production strength of China, and the advanced craftsmanship of Japan —
delivering eyewear that is refined, precise, durable, and built to last.

The production region ‘Sabae’ is in Fukui, Japan.
Home to 95% of Japan’s optical frame production, it is widely regarded as ‘the heart of Japanese eyewear craftsmanship’.

The history of over a century

Around 1905, the production of optical frame has started when they began it as a side business in agricultural off-season.

In the 1980s, Sabae became the first in the world to successfully mass-produce titanium frames — establishing its global reputation as the home of Japanese eyewear technology.

Meticulous Craftsmanship Process

Crafted with utmost care, each pair of Sabae eyewear is brought to life through more than 200 meticulous steps — a true reflection of Japanese craftsmanship.
This is multiple working processes from the other country’s production except for Japan.
Most of the process relies on the hands of skilled artisans, with no compromise in the delicate adjustments and final finishing.

Design

The appeal of eyewear begins with design.
We create silhouettes that complement facial features and bone structure, while integrating functions that fit each lifestyle.
Through countless sketches and 3D models, every curve and angle is refined down to the millimeter.
Experienced designers repeatedly prototype and test to achieve both beauty and comfort—resulting in truly one-of-a-kind frames.

Mold Making

To turn a design into an actual frame, we craft highly precise molds.
Metal blocks are carved to reproduce even the finest textures and curves. Skilled artisans then polish them with years of expertise, pushing accuracy to the highest level.
Because even the slightest deviation affects the final product, every mold undergoes strict inspection—becoming the foundation of consistent quality in mass production.

Parts Production

Using the completed mold, materials are shaped into frame components through pressure and heat.
The ideal form is not achieved in a single step—craftsmen carefully adjust the process while observing the mold and material reactions.
In this way, each precise part is created and passed on to the next stage of production.

Polishing

Unwanted metal residues and fine irregularities are carefully removed from each molded part.
After specialized polishing machines refine the shape, skilled craftsmen inspect every detail by hand, adjusting edge curves that define wearing comfort.
This process smooths the entire component, ensuring the durability and quality required for final polishing and assembly.

Assembly

Polished components are brought together to form a single frame.
Every hinge, screw, and small part is precisely fitted, while craftsmen carefully adjust smooth opening and closing, as well as left-right balance.
Even the slightest distortion is corrected through repeated checks.
Only after this meticulous process does the eyewear achieve both the strength of a functional tool and the beauty of a finished piece.

Inspection

After all processes are complete, each frame undergoes rigorous inspection.
Craftsmen check every detail—from tiny surface scratches and distortions to screw tension and overall comfort.
Any flaw, no matter how small, is rejected.
Only eyewear that passes these strict standards, refined through countless steps and skilled techniques, is released as a true finished piece of quality.

Crafted by the Entire Town

In Sabae, eyewear is crafted by an entire town — from the tiniest components to assembly and finishing, all completed within the community.
This unique heritage is ‘the true strength of Sabae craftsmanship’.
The community functions as a single factory, united to create eyewear of the highest quality with uncompromising attention to detail.

“World-class craftsmanship, right here.”
